Michoacán

Artisans of Santa Cruz

@bordadosdesantacruz

Steeped in tradition.
Secluded in the Michoacán countryside lies the small artisanal village of Santa Cruz. A village of around 300 residents, the women of the town are steeped in the traditional art of embroidery, known as Bordados en Tradiciones.
This age-old practice has been passed down through the women of Santa Cruz for generations. Bordados en Tradiciones is used to create unique traditional garments imbued with meaning and cultural significance, with rich stories and symbolism woven into the fabric itself.

Dioz Gomez (DIOZ), Urban Artist

@diozgomez

Bringing culture to life through art.
Hailing from the town of Uruapan, Michoacán, artist Dioz Gomez (DIOZ) creates urban art with a distinct social impact. Over the last 9 years, DIOZ has created murals and artworks which reflect the power, capacity, and love of the human psyche. These pieces, hidden across cities in Mexico, share DIOZ’s unique vision and open them up to a new way of seeing the world around them.
The DIOZ x Gallo Conócete collaboration grew from the idea of bringing a profound visual statement on the value of human life to Urupan, one of Mexico’s most dangerous cities. Transformación muerte vida, explores the transmutation from life to death, and death to life, reminding passers-by that one is in constant flux with the other. The mural juxtaposes sombre tones with explosions of colour, drawing upon the unique cultural roots of Michoacán to bring a perspective of light and love to a city-scape scarred by cartel violence.
Transformación muerte vida is an expression of life made vibrant by recognising the omnipresent reality of death.
